Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2020: Preview, Match Schedule, Team Squads, and Tournament Predictions

All you need to know about the 5th edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) which will be played in Pakistan entirely this time around from February 22 to March 22, 2020, live streaming.

After playing a chunk of the PSL in Pakistan in the last couple of seasons, the management of the league has finally been able to convince all stakeholders to conduct the entire tournament in Pakistan this year.

This will not only mean a lot of excitement among the fans and the Pakistani players getting to play in front of their home crowd but also means more buzz around the league, more people in the stadiums and increased revenue.

The league initially began with five teams in 2016 when Islamabad United has crowned the champions of the inaugural edition. The United repeated their feat with another title win in 2018 when Multan Sultan came into being.

Peshawar Zalmi has ended as runners-up in the last two editions of the league and would be strong contenders for the title this season.

The teams along with their captains are as follows:

  • Islamabad United - Shadab Khan
  • Quetta Gladiators - Sarfaraz Ahmed
  • Peshawar Zalmi - Darren Sammy
  • Lahore Qalandars - Sohail Akhtar
  • Karachi Kings - Imad Wasim
  • Multan Sultans - Shan Masood

The league follows the double round-robin format with each team playing the other five teams twice each in the league stage. Following the group, the stage is the standard playoff format in which the teams ending first and second get to clash in the Qualifier, while the winner moves straight to the final.

PSL 5 TROPHY

The losing team gets another chance to have a go at the final berth in Eliminator 2, where they clash against the winner of the Eliminator 1. The team losing the Eliminator 1 is knocked out of the tournament.

The Qualifier will be played on March 17 in Karachi. Eliminator 1, Eliminator 2 and the Final will take place in Lahore on March 18, 20 and 22 respectively.

During the Player Replacement Draft that took place recently, Lewis Gregory, Carlos Brathwaite, Wayne Madsen, Dane Vilas, Dawid Malan, and Zahid Mehmood have been added while Lendl Simmons, Dwaine Pretorius, and Rassie van der Dussen will miss the entire tournament.
